Is it enough?
This week, I’m putting the final touches on the curriculum I’ve developed for the Forward Action Leadership Lab (F.A.L.L.), a program I’m leading designed to cultivate more alignment and agency for leaders and those they lead. We start on Monday, and while I’m stoked, there’s still a lot to do to prepare.
A question I’m asking myself a lot (and I mean A LOT!) as I’ve put together this program is “is it enough?”
It takes various forms…
Do I have enough people participating?
Is the content good enough?
Is it polished enough?
Will people get enough value out of participating?
Is it enough?
I hear versions of this question with the leaders I coach, too.
Is this presentation compelling enough?
Have I worked hard enough?
Are these goals big enough?
As leaders (whether we’re leading others or ourselves), we often have to find the answers to these questions within ourselves.
If you’re finding yourself asking similar questions, here are a few that might be more helpful…
Have you reached the point of diminishing returns?
What is the opportunity cost of continuing? What are you giving up? What are you gaining?
What would your successor do, if they were in your shoes?
What do you want to do?
If you’re finding yourself, like me, in a season where you’re questioning the “enoughness” of your work, I hope you’ll take a pause and consider that yes, perhaps, you’ve done enough.
